Step-by-Step Application Process

1

Apply Online

Visit the official Republic of Kenya eTA website. Start a new application for tourism or business.

2

Upload Documents

Upload a scan of your passport's bio-data page, a recent passport-style photo, and your accommodation booking confirmation.

3

Pay the eTA Fee

Pay the processing fee (approx. 30 USD) online using a credit card, debit card, or WeChat Pay/Alipay if supported by the portal at the time.

4

Receive eTA Approval

Wait for processing, which usually takes 3 working days. You will receive the approved eTA document via email.

5

Travel to Kenya

Print your eTA or save it to your phone. Present it along with your passport to immigration officers upon arrival in Kenya.

Required Documents

  • Valid Chinese passport (at least 6 months validity from the date of arrival, with one blank page)
  • Recent passport-style photograph
  • Contact details (email address and phone number)
  • Details of your arrival and departure flights
  • Proof of accommodation in Kenya (hotel booking)

Important Tips

  • Apply for your eTA at least 3 days before travel to ensure you receive it in time, but no earlier than 3 months before your trip.
  • The eTA is strictly for a single entry. If you plan to leave Kenya (e.g., to visit Tanzania) and return, check if you need a new eTA, unless traveling within the East African Community under specific rules.
  • A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission, or if you transited for more than 12 hours through such a country. While traveling directly from China generally doesn't require it, it's highly recommended for travel in East Africa.

Easiest Way to Get It

Use the official Kenyan government eTA portal. It is very user-friendly. Avoid third-party websites that charge exorbitant processing fees on top of the government fee.

Visa rules can change. Always verify with the official embassy.
