Step-by-Step Application Process

Choose Your Method

Decide whether you prefer the convenience of an e-Visa before traveling or getting a Visa on Arrival.

Apply for e-Visa (Optional but Recommended)

If choosing the e-Visa, apply online through the official Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration website. Fill out the form and upload a copy of your passport.

Pay the Fee

For the e-Visa, pay the fee online. For Visa on Arrival, you can pay at the immigration desk (credit cards are widely accepted, but having some cash in USD is useful).

Arrival in Rwanda

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or any land border, present your passport, return flight ticket, and e-Visa approval (if applicable) to the immigration officer.

Entry

The officer will stamp your passport, granting you a 30-day tourist visa.

Required Documents

—Valid Chinese passport (at least 6 months validity from the date of entry)
—Return or onward flight ticket
—Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
—Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (required if arriving from or transiting through a yellow fever endemic country)

Important Tips

•While you can get a Visa on Arrival, the e-Visa saves you time queuing at the airport, especially during busy arrival periods.
•Rwanda is part of the East Africa Tourist Visa program. If you plan to visit Kenya and Uganda as well, consider applying for the joint East Africa Tourist Visa instead of a single-entry Rwanda visa.
•Rwanda has a strict ban on plastic bags; your luggage may be searched upon arrival, and any plastic bags will be confiscated.
